Gillian O'Connor begins her legal career in defence litigation, representing hospitals and health boards, gaining rare insight into the defence mindset that later shaped her work for injured patients.

Michael Boylan takes on the “lost cause” William Dunne v NMH birth injury case, winning it and setting the legal principles for all Irish medical negligence actions still applied today.

A Landmark Victory (1990)
Dunne v NMH becomes the first successful maternity negligence case in Ireland, with a record IR£1M award. A defining moment for patient rights and medical accountability.

Taking up the Baton (2021)
Ciara has worked with Michael Boylan Litigation since its inception and became a Partner in 2021. Previously, she worked for a number of years solely in the field of plaintiff litigation in both Dublin and her hometown of Monaghan. She became Principal Solicitor in 2024.
