Michael Boylan LLP secured €1,000,000 in damages for a client who sustained a serious lower-leg fracture at a Dublin retail outlet.

Our client sustained a traction injury to the saphenous nerve and a significant valgus injury to her ankle, including damage to the deltoid and flexor retinaculum and the posterior tibial tendon. She subsequently had to undergo an ankle reconstruction.

She continues to suffer from ongoing pain and persistent numbness in her right lower limb, particularly affecting her right ankle and foot. She walks with the aid of a crutch and reports that walking or driving for any length of time exacerbates her pain.

She was subsequently diagnosed with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome by her consultant orthopaedic surgeons. There is no cure for CRPS, and her consultants agreed that she will likely suffer ongoing pain and disability into the future. The condition has had a profound impact on her life. She has suffered physically and psychologically, and due to her ongoing symptoms has had to reduce her working hours, resulting in a loss of income and pension.

Liability and causation remained in issue throughout proceedings. The action settled for €1,000,000.
