A 47-year-old restaurateur from Dunboyne, Co Meath, died in May 2020 from complications associated with Dapsone, a medication she had been prescribed for a skin rash.

Her husband and daughter brought a High Court action against the GP who had prescribed the drug. The claim alleged that there had been a failure to properly diagnose her condition, to monitor the effects of the medication, and to warn her of the risk of Dapsone Hypersensitivity Syndrome. The family said she had developed liver failure, multi-organ failure and septic shock before her death.

The action settled following mediation, without any admission of liability and on confidential terms. Dublin City Coroner had previously returned a verdict of death by misadventure after finding that the rare drug-related syndrome had caused her complications.
